CHALLENGE

While being new to the market, the app had a massive potential to pick up the pace and find popularity in a thriving demographic who use horoscope and astrology apps.

The app was facing difficulty in gaining said popularity.

GOAL

To give the app a certain push to reach a better ranking which would later improve its visibility.

EXECUTION STRATEGY

Keyword Optimisation, Link Earning, and Organic Reviews proved to be the perfect trio of solutions to the challenges faced by the app.

Initially, we did thorough keyword research to understand the landscape of the Horoscope industry and shortlisted the keywords that are highly relevant to Spicy Horoscope. Once we had finalized them, we wanted to AB test a few keywords and understand the keywords for which Spicy Horoscope will rank at a better position without off-page optimization, and we found the winner.

If there is one thing the algorithm loves, it is organic reviews from users of the app. That was our next stop – building organic reviews, which was also a challenging part of the strategy. We had to identify crucial touchpoints where the app would help generate positive emotions in the user. Once we had this, we notified the early users to review the app picking up on the crucial touchpoints. and had a fair bit of success and saw a 5% conversion rate.

The last part of the puzzle was off-page where we wanted relevant blogs to write about us, we had to reach out to hundreds of blogs and were able to score quite a few links.

CONCLUSION

The first two steps helped in moving the app’s position from 40th to 20th. This was further fine-tuned with the link earning program which increased the app’s ranking by several spots and in a month, the app ranked 9th in the Play Store. The app settled at 6th position within 2 months driving significant user acquisition organically.


These efforts rendered the app to be one of the top-rated arrivals in the horoscope apps category.

Within 3 months of starting, we increased the traffic to 10x and were able to achieve a sustainable growth of 100% month on month.
